The magnificent Lydian Hoard was referred to as Karun Hazineleri (Treasures of Karun) after the fabulously rich man of the Koran (Sura XXVII 76-83, XL 23-24) who is the same as the Korah of the Bible (Numbers 16) and Rabbanical Literature, and the Kores of Josephus (Jewish Antiquites 4.14.56), and who is mentioned both as the uncle of the Egyptian pharoah, and is not, as is a popular misconception, to be identified with the Lydian king Kroisos. |
